What you are observing on your digital device is a virtual tree. It was once alive. Born in the 1900's. It will cease to live in 2017.
Soon the whir of chainsaws will silence the sounds of the rustle of its leaves and the song birds perched in its mighty arms. This sentinel tree is actually two trees of different native species, coexisting through drought and hurricanes. A Wild Tamarind and a Gumbo Limbo, their roots entwined, sharing the same plot of earth, ray of sunshine and drip of rain water. The land where they lived will soon be stripped down to barren white coral, and a concrete structure will replace their once life giving form. I wish I had the power to save these living trees for you. They brought such joy to me and other passersby, who witnessed your beauty, and paused just a moment to breathe. That's why I took this photograph. Carol Ellis March 2017 Every individual possesses that which in his own mind is a garden. |
